2002-2003 Subaru Impreza Wagons Recall

Subaru is recalling 36,791 MY 2002-2003 Impreza wagons. The stud bolt(s) of rear gate stay may have been tightened with insufficient tightening torque and a gap may have resulted between the rear gate panel and stud bolt base. After repeated rear gate operations (opening and closing), the rear gate inner panel at the welding nut may break, which will lead to detachment of the rear gate stay, and the rear gate dropping down. In case someone is underneath or near the rear gate, there is a possibility that a dropping rear gate panel may hit them increasing the risk of injuries.

2008 Merceder CL and S Class Passenger Vehicles

Mercedes-Benz is recalling 3,283 MY 2008 S-class and CL-class passenger vehicles. A malfunction may occur on the signal acquisition and actuation module-front (SAM-F) transistors. The SAM-F is a double transistor that helps control vehicle functions and the lighting of the center console. Incorrect storage of the transistors led the transistors to be exposed to excess humidity. The presence of this moisture in combination with the thermal stress during the "reflow soldering" may damage the transistors and prevent them from properly functioning which will increase the risk of crash.

Buick Regal, Pontiac Grand Prix 1997-2003 Vehicles Recall

GM is recalling 207,542 MY 1997-2003 Buick Regal and Pontiac Grand Prix vehicles equipped with a 3.8L supercharged V-6 engine. Certain underhood fires may be caused by drops of engine oil being deposited on the exhaust manifold through hard braking. If the manifold is hot enough and the oil runs below the heat shield, it may ignite into a small flame and, in some instances, fire may spread to the plastic spark plug wire channel.

2008 BMW M3 Coupe vs. 2008 Audi S5 Coupe

Before you start sending us flaming e-mails complaining that a comparison between the 2008 Audi S5 and the 2008 BMW M3 Coupe is an obvious mismatch from the get-go, you should know a few things.

Our first full test of the $53,000, all-wheel-drive 2008 Audi S5 was a bit of a revelation. With a 354-horsepower version of Audi's direct-injection 4.2-liter V8 under its hood, the voluptuous Audi S5 ran a 13.3-second quarter-mile at 104 mph, just 0.1 second and 2 mph shy of the 420-hp 2007 Audi RS4 sedan. What's more, the S5's slalom speed is within a couple mph of the harsh-riding RS-spec sedan. "It ran a 13.3? With that kind of speed, who needs a $67,000 RS4?" we asked ourselves.

Buying vs. Leasing

Are the doors rusting off your favorite hatchback? Does your trusty old pickup burn more oil than it does gas? If so, you’ve probably thought about treating yourself to a new set of wheels. The only problem is there are so many different vehicles to choose from on today’s new car market, picking the one that’s right for you can be difficult at best. But choosing the right car is only half the battle. The other half is deciding whether to buy or lease. Each option has its plusses and minuses; which one is right for you?

Saleen S5S Raptor

Saleen, maker of countless Mustang-based hot rods and the S7 racecar, will unveil a midengine sports car concept at the 2008 New York Auto Show in March.

Unlike the roughly $700,000 S7, which was a purpose-built racecar that was occasionally licensed for the street, the S5S Raptor is a vision for the "premium performance market with segment-leading horsepower." In other words, this will be a sports car designed primarily for the street instead of the track. Saleen says power will come from a supercharged 5.0-liter engine that runs on E85 ethanol. We expect that the Raptor's motor will be based on the supercharged 5.0-liter Ford-based V8 that already powers the company's S302E Mustang-based car. In the S302E, the engine is rated at 620 horsepower. That should give it the necessary oomph to make it to the 200 mph top speed Saleen is estimating.

2009 Pontiac G8 GXP

Two words: Corvette power. Yes, the 2009 Pontiac G8 GXP gets the same LS3 V8 as the Chevrolet Corvette. Sure, the GXP's more restrictive intake knocks the 6.2-liter V8 down to 402 horsepower and 402 pound-feet of torque, but that's still 41 extra hp and 17 more lb-ft of torque than the 2008 Pontiac G8 GT.

Pontiac says this is enough power to get the new 2009 Pontiac G8 GXP from zero to 60 mph in 4.7 seconds and through the quarter-mile in 13 seconds flat at 108 mph. Not bad for a car that is expected to sticker for "just under $40,000," according to Brian Shipman, the Pontiac G8's product manager.

2008 Pontiac G8

The G8, short for Group of Eight, is an international forum that brings together the eight wealthiest and most powerful countries in the world. This meeting gives the heads of these states a chance to openly discuss pressing issues facing the planet. For 2008, GM’s Pontiac division is launching a new, full-size sedan that for all practical purposes could have been named after the global summit. And just like the G8 conference, the Pontiac G8 is truly an international affair. The rear-wheel-drive architecture that underpins this all-American, V8-powered, four-door rocket was developed in Australia of all places by GM’s Holden subsidiary.
